Betla National Park
Betla National Park is a national park located in the Chota Nagpur Plateau of the Latehar district of the Indian state of Jharkhand, in India. It was established in 1986 and the area covered is about 231.67 km². Betla is the place where you will come across the Betla Fort of the 16th century Chero kings. The forest is spread from the edge of Netarhat hill range in the south to the Auranga river in the north and from Madhya Pradesh in the west to Latehar-Sarju road in the east. It is now a part of one of the nine tiger reserves in India under Project Tiger. Tigers are the main attraction in this place and tourists come here to catch a glimpse of the endangered animal. Betla is most important tourist place of jharkhand having luxiuriant Sal and miscellaneous trees and bamboo forests. The Betla National Park has the eminence of being one of the 9 tiger reserves that were first established in the country. This park is situated towards the western part of the Chota Nagpur Plateau and was an extension of the Hazaribagh National Park during 1960s. The park is covered by thick forest; however sighting wildlife is not a problem. Pure stands of sal forest, rich evergreens, teak trees and bamboo thickets are home to some 37 tigers, 62 leopards, 210 elephants and 249 bison.
