Galathea National Park
Galathea National Park is a National Park located in the Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, India. It was established in 1992 and the area covered is about 110 km². This park is considered an important place to preserve the Giant Robber Crab, Nicobar Pigeon including the fauna of the place. Galathea is located on the island of Great Nicobar, the largest of the Nicobar Islands in the eastern Indian Ocean some 190 km to the north of Sumatra. It incorporates two National parks of India namely Cambell Bay National Park on the northern part of the island and Galathea National Park on the southern part. The name thus given is because it is known to steal shiny items from many households. This park also includes another national park namely Campbell Bay, which is actually 12 kilometers far located from Galathea. Normally on an average, the temperature ranges from 22°C to 31°C along with some critical storms that hit the city. This Park houses many distinctive and unusual species of plants and animals that are widespread in the island. The reserve is home to many species of plants and animals, often endemic to the Andaman and Nicobar s bio geographic region. Tourists visit national parks every year to click pictures of animals and enjoy the view of watching them in their natural habitat. The flora of the park is typical to this area and consists mainly of Tropical and subtropical broad leaf forests. In this national park a number of species are found including endangered too.
