The Gir Forest National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary also known as Sasan-Gir is a forest and wildlife sanctuary in Gujarat, India. The Gir Forest established in 1965, with there is a total area about of 1412 Km².This Park is often visited by the tourists who come to the city of Junagadh. The park is an ideal place for the nature lovers. The fed by perennial and seasonal rivers and streams, the sanctuary has large water bodies like the Kamleshwar Dam that are good for crocodiles and birds. The Gir Forest largest compact tract of dry deciduous forests in the semi-arid western part of India is the last abode of the big and regal predator Asiatic lion an endangered species. The Gir lies have a topography made up of succession of rugged ridges, isolated hills, plateaus and valleys. Once almost hunted to extinction, numbers have recovered well due to conservation efforts. These people mostly link Gir with "Maldharis" who have survived through the ages by having symbiotic relationship with the lion. They are religious pastoral communities living in Gir. Their settlements are called "nesses".

Gir National Park is open from mid October until mid June. They start at 6.30 a.m., 9.00 a.m., and 3 p.m. The Gir Interpretation Zone is open Thursday to Tuesday, closed Wednesday 8.00 A.M. until 11 A.M. and 3.00 P.M. until twilight.
