Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park
The Zanzibar's first and only National Park is centred on Jozani Forest, the largest area of mature forest found within Zanzibar. The Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park is a 50 KM2 national park of Tanzania located on the island of Zanzibar. The Jozani-Chwaka Bay National Park was established in 2004. The Jozani forest lies about 35 KM south-east of Stone Town in the south of the Island and lies between the Chwaka Bay in the north and Uzi Bay. This area of National Park offers a great way of seeing a very different side of Zanzibar. Rather than just white sand, blue sea, and crumbling palaces, Zanzibar is also very green. The recent move has added the rich mangrove forests of the Chwaka bay into the reserve making the ecosystem the largest conservation area in Zanzibar. In the Jozani-Chawka Bay area, project planners brokered community governance and benefit sharing agreement that has been lauded as a watershed moment for conservation policy in Zanzibar.
