Katavi National Park
Katavi National Park is a Tanzanian national park created in 1974.The park is approximately area of 4,471 km2 which makes it the third largest national park in Tanzania. Katavi National Park it lies in Mpanda district in the west of Tanzania. Isolated, untrammelled and seldom visited, Katavi is a true wilderness, providing the few intrepid souls who make it there with a thrilling taste of Africa as it must have been a century ago. Located along the rift escarpment in western Tanzania, it offers incredible scenery including immense wetlands, roaring waterfalls and original miombo woodlands, where the Sable antelopes often hide. As a result few people make the effort to come here and so it has remained an untouched, unique experience, and absolutely worth visiting. The Katavi plains are home to the last great herds of Buffalo in Africa and yet each year only a few hundred people are privileged enough to experience it. There is water though–and sand bars–long stretches of white sand and shallow reflective pools of rainwater that show the clouds in the sky and at times, the passing animals. A panoramic view shows herds of thousands of buffalo, elephant and zebra. Remote and inaccessible, Katavi National Park remains one of Africa's last unspoilt wildernesses.
