Kisumu Impala Sanctuary
It is located Kisumu city, Kisumu Impala Sanctuary lies on the shores of Lake Victoria, covering less than 1 km2. It was gazetted in 1992 and later branded in March 2010 as a lakeshore walk with impalas. Captive animals include the leopard, spotted hyena, blue monkey, patas monkeys, grey parrots, buffaloes, grey duikers, ostriches, hartebeest, cheetahs, lions, lionesses, white rhino, guinea fowls, tortoises and serval cats amongst others. The Kisumu is located 355 km North of Nairobi, the sanctuary is 3 km from Kisumu city centre, borders the Yacht club, Wildlife Clubs of Kenya and it’s near Hippo Point in Kenya. The sanctuary is a key site for research, education and recreation in the world. It also provides a safe grazing area for hippos from the lake. Kisumu Impala Sanctuary is less than 1 kilometer square and is a key site for research, education and recreation in the world.There are a diverse number of floras (of trees, grass & herbs) and fauna both free ranging and captive. The sanctuary also provides important open grazing for the local hippo population while the threatened sitatunga antelope exist in the nearby swamps and can be seen early in the morning. The sanctuary has all the big five animals except the Elephant. The Kisumu Impala Sanctuary was gazetted in October 1992, after which a holding facility for captive animals in the Western Conservation Area (WCA) was developed within the sanctuary to enhance tourism.
