Mnazi Bay-Ruvumba Estuary Marine Park
The Mnazi Bay-Ruvuma Estuary Marine Park (MBREMP) is located in the Mtwara Rural District of the Mtwara. It was stablished on 1 july 2000 with totat area of 650 km². The park extends from the northern portion of the Ruvuma Estuary to Mnazi Bay, including the headland of Ras Msangamkuu. The largest tracts of mangrove forests in the park are in the Ruvuma Delta. The reefs offer superb snorkelling and diving, especially on Ruvula Reef, off the north end of Msimbati Peninsula, which slopes steeply right up. Some of the best diving in Tanzania is found within the Marine Park and includes spectacular outer reef drop offs, extensive spur and groove formations, channel and patch reefs. The easiest beach to access is just beyond Msimbati village and the park gate, though it’s used by fishermen for peeling prawns and cleaning fish. This has created an over dependence on marine resources and the persistent use of destructive fishing methods.
