Mombasa Marine Reserve
Mombasa Marine National Park and Reserve is a marine park and national reserve in Mombasa, Kenya. The coastline north of Mombasa is a world of natural beauty. The Marin reserve gazetted in 1986 and over all covered area of 200 km2. It is the most heavily visited of Kenya's marine parks. Mombasa Marine Reserve is on 200 km2 located in Lamu County the park can be reached by road from Mombasa city centre, and then by boat from Mombasa Beach. Their coastline is heavily developed with tourist facilities. These firms are spread along the beach. Nyali Beach is the first beach you come to north of Mombasa. Bamburi Beach is next as you travel north. It is home to large hotels with the Mombasa Marine Park located offshore. Mombasa Marine Reserve was created to protect its precious coral heads and their resident marine life from damage by over fishing and trophy collecting relics, shells, coral etc. The roughly 2 hour journey back to Mombasa was relatively short. We proceeded towards Mombasa and the vast landscapes were soon obstructed by buildings and homes.
