The park is about 27KM east of Thika and can be reached by public transport. A rugged, hump-backed outcrop of ancient rock jutting high above the Athi Plains and hazily visible from Nairobi, Ol Donyo Sabuk is a densely forested mountain known to the local Kikuyu as ‘The Mountain of the Buffalo’, and to the Maasai as ‘The Big Mountain’. It is one of the smallest parks, only 3KM2.Most titles include additional tourist information, indicating entry gates and orienteering signposts within the parks, lodges and other accommodation facilities, etc. Many maps have drawings and list of main animals commonly found in the park. For more information see descriptions of the individual titles. It was the home to the legendry Lord William Northrop Macmillan. Wildlife species that can be spotted here include buffalo, colobus monkeys, baboons, bushbuck, impala, duiker, and abundant birdlife. It further reveals that conflicts in Kenyan wildlife management are faced with a four pronged dilemma revolving around the four Ps: poverty, politics, power and profits. The focus of the park is the summit of Ol Donyo Sabuk 2146KM, surrounded by an oasis of dense primeval forest that support a huge variety of birds and numerous primates, including black and white Colobus and Blue monkeys. Ol Donyo Sabuk National Park is a fascinating one-day trip out of Nairobi, only 65 KM.The park itself is named for the great mountain in its midst, the Masai word for "big mountain.
