Rubondo Island National Park
Rubondo Island National park is only park on Lake Victoria in Tanzania’s. The 240 KM2 Island provides an unforgettable experience for visitors, combining the breathtaking natural beauty of a forest refuge with the relaxing tranquillity of sandy lake shore beaches. The Island is characterised by four volcanic submerged peaks which are joined by three flatter areas. This island attracts a small number of visitors each year, mainly game fishermen and bird enthusiasts. The plane soars over Lake Victoria, the world’s second largest lake, its shore stretching across Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya. It measures 26 KM in length, with a width varying from 3 KM to 10 KM in different parts of the island. Rubondo Island boasts a unique diversity of flora and fauna. A pair of fish eagles guards the gentle bay, their distinctive black, white and chestnut feather pattern gleaming boldly in the morning sun. With nine smaller islands under its wing, Rubondo protects precious fish breeding grounds. Rubondo is more than a water wonderland. There are only two vehicles allowed on the island, one belonging to Tanzania National Parks Authority and another to Rubondo Island camp.
How to reach Rubondo Island National Park:
Reach by Road: You are access by road from Mwanza and then boat transfer. The Coastal air flies from Seronera to Rubondo on Tuesday and Friday, depart at 1425 hours arrives 1700 hours.
