Ruma National Park
Ruma National Park is one of Kenya's most unusual and beautiful national parks. Ruma National Park is the only Terrestrial Park in the entire Nyanza Province. Ruma was first gazetted in 1966 as Lambwe valley game reserve and acquired national park status in 1983 here. It was initially established as the Lambwe Valley Game Reserve in 1966. The total Park covers an area of 120 KM2. It lies at a height of 1,200 - 1,600 M above sea level. The park lies in western Kenya, close to the shores of Lake Victoria and is set in Lambwe Valley in South Nyanza, 140 KM from Kisumu, 10 KM east of Lake Victoria and South West of Homa Bay and 425 KM west of Nairobi. The park protects the only indigenous population of rare roan antelopes within Kenya. Ruma National Park is the last Retreat of the Roan Antelope Ruma offers sanctuary to the threatened Roan Antelope, one of Africa's rarest Antelopes. Ruma National Park Major Attractions OF Roan antelope which is found nowhere else in the country. This Wildlife is - Roan antelope, leopard, buffalo, hyena, Rothschild's giraffe, oribi, Jackson and lelwel hartebeest, impala, bohor Reed buck, serval cat, topi, baboons, vervet monkey, honey badgers, bush pig etc.

How to reach Ruma National Park:
Getting here By Road: From Nairobi the most direct route to Ruma National Park is via Nakuru, Kericho and Kisii. From Kisii proceed in a southerly direction on the main A1 road to Rongo, at a distance of 34 KM. At Rongo turn to the right and proceed 27 KM to Rodi Kopany. Then turn left and head for Migori, at a distance of 20 KM. These are Migori follow signs to the park, entering at in the Kamato main gate.
