Saadani National Park
Saadani National Park is Tanzania's 13th National Park. It is surrounded area of 1100 KM2 and it was established in 2005 from a game reserve which had existed from 1969. Saadani village once was an important harbour-town and slave trading center in east Africa. The climate is coastal, hot and humid. Saadani's claim to fame is that it's the only wildlife reserve in East Africa with a beachfront on the Indian Ocean. The ocean nearby is also home to many species of fish, dolphins and humpback whale. Early morning after breakfast you will be picked up and departure to Saadani National Park. You will enjoy seeing different villages some hold interesting historical attraction, rivers and more. Located just 100 km north of the historical town of Bagamoyo and immediately accessible by paved road from Dar es Salaam (Dar), Saadani has recently become a fully protected national park and is a popular day-trip from beach resorts scattered along Tanzania’s coastal circuit. Formerly, a Game Reserve, Saadani has recently undergone the transition to National Park status. Saadani National Park is Tanzania's newest national park, covering more than 1,200 KM2 in the east of the country, north of Dar es Salaam about 150 KM2 drive away. The east coast of Africa has a long and rich cultural history and Saadani has always been at the centre. About 30 species of larger mammals are present as well as numerous reptiles and birds. Villages of the mainland mostly live from agriculture and livestock farming.
How to reach Saadani National Park:
Reach by Road: The Park will be easily accessible through Wami River from Dar es Salaam via Bagamoyo when the bridge that is under construction is complete. However, currently in order to reach the park from Dar es Salaam one has to drive a 200 KM via Chalinze-Msata road. From the north, one can reach the park from Tanga city by crossing Pangani River with a ferry 75 KM / Three hours drive. The more circuitous drive inland from Dar es Salaam via Chalinze typically takes 4-5 hours.
