Shimba Hills National Reserve
Shimba Hills National Reserve is a small National Reserve in the Coast Province of Kenya. It was established in 1968 and there are covers area of 193 km². The ecosystem holds one of the largest coastal forests in East Africa after Arabuko-Sokoke forest. There are estimated to be approximately 700 elephants in the reserve. The lodge stays refreshingly cool in its forest setting despite being only 45 minutes from the hot, humid coastal city of Mombasa and 30 minutes from the South coast resorts of Diani. The park is well managed, the road is good all year round and there are plenty of signposts, to direct you. Shimba Hills is a tropical rain forest, cool and refreshing after the heat and humidity of the beach. Amid the stillness of the forest is the spectacular Sheldrake’s Water Fall.
