Kisite Marine National Park
Kisite-Mpunguti Marine National Park is situated on the southern coast of Kenya nearest the Shimoni and south of Wasini Island in Kwale District nearest the Tanzanian border. Kisite Park covers 11 km2 while Mpunguti reserve covers 28 km2.The Kisite Island is covered in low grass and herbs while Mpunguti Islands have dense coastal equatorial forest. It was established Kisite Marine National Park in 1973, Kenya an area of coral reefs along its southern coast.The landscape is thick bush and forest, with tall trees, baobabs, and coconut crabs. The Park, which was established to protect the scenic islands and special habitats of a wide range of endemic marine animals and breeding migratory birds, lies in the coral gardens beginning about 1 km south of Wasini Island. The Marine parks usually allow recreational activities, such as snorkeling, sport fishing, and boating. Most marine parks also include zones for commercial fishing, sometimes called open zones. Exploitation is banned in the Marine Park while fishing using traditional methods is permitted in the Marine Reserve.
