Meru National Park
Meru National Park is wild and beautiful. Meru National Park is a Kenyan Game park located east of Meru, 350 KM from Nairobi. This Park is opened in 1968. The Park Covering an area of 870 KM².The story still lives on in the wonderful topography of the Meru national park. It has diverse scenery from woodlands at 3,000 feet on the slopes of Nyambeni Mountain Range, northeast of Mount Kenya, to wide open plains with wandering riverbanks dotted with doum palms. Meru National Park contains numerous rivers and waterways including the mighty Tana River and varied habitats of swamp, riverine forest, savannah and dry bush country. The Park is most famous as the setting for Joy Adamson's book "Born Free" the story of the Adamson's life and research amongst lion and cheetah. The 3rd biggest wildlife conservation area and elephant habitat in Kenya after Tsavo East and Tsavo West. There are few animals more imposing on a landscape than a herd of elephant and there are few elephant more imposing than a mature bull. It was through his management, leadership skills and also the trust that non-governmental organisations had in his abilities, that has resulted in the recovery of Meru National Park. This is the Meru National Park, a one of a kind forest reserve East of Meru. This is probably one of the reasons why the Meru National Park is overlooked by most of the tourists who go to Kenya in the past.

Reach By Road: Access from Nairobi 348 KM2 is via Nyeri-Nanyuki-Meru or via Embu all weather roads.There are Access into the park from Maua to Murera Gate 35 KM and 348 KM from Nairobi.The other access is via Embu to Ura Gate 120 KM, 290 KM from Nairobi- inaccessible at the momen.
