Vansda National Park
Vansda National Park, a protected area representing the thick woodlands of the Dangs and southern Gujarat is located in the Navsari District of Gujarat state, India. It was first established in 1979 and the area covered is about 23.99 km². The canopy is so thick you find parts of the forest in darkness, and are amazed to remember you are still in Gujarat, so lush and dense is the world around you. The croaking, chirping, and humming of a variety of insects create a silent symphony of melodious sounds of nature. The terrain is flat to undulating and is drained by the beautiful river Ambika, which eventually meets the sea near Navsari. As the forest forms continuous tract with the forest of adjoining district of Dangs, the sanctuary is managed by South Dangs Forest Division. The Vansda National Park in Gujarat is spread over an area of 24 square kilometres, in the mountains of Western Ghats or Sahyadris. A visit to the nearby Waghai botanical garden and the nature education trail from the botanical garden up to the National Park would be a delightful experience for the nature lovers. The terrain in most of the parts is accessible by a motor vehicle, especially two wheelers. Although on a normal weekday, many young motorists zoom across the undulating terrain. The deep forest area of Vansda is dominated by tall teak and bamboo. Great black woodpecker, Malabar trogon, shama, emerald dove, grey hornbill, racket-tailed drongo, paradise flycatcher, leaf birds, thrushes, sunbirds, pea fowls are some of the beautiful. The landscape around the Vansda National Park of Gujarat is very beautiful, surrounded with trees, small streams and valleys.
